The rally wagon has been sold.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Its time had come, for me. Although that time was brief (less than five months), it was fun and exciting. I just needed the space more than I needed another car right now. I was too nervous about breaking it at rallycross, too

I’m not ruling out buying something else, but the right deal would have to really jump at me. Probably something I could take to the track and not worry too much. Miata, EF/EG Civic, E30, etc. If I had more room, I’d probably put a V8 in an E30... but not right now. That’s dumb.

AW11 is best cheap track rat.

How many times did you need to replace the head gaskets?

Oh man, so many times.

(The EJ22 is pre-head gasket nightmares, so it was actually zero).

As much as I love the AW11, if I’m buying an MR-2 it’s going to be a later model (ostensibly a turbo). My god they’re gorgeous.

I still stand by my claims that sn SW30 with a turbo or 2ZZ swap is better than the SW20.

Ehhh, I don’t know why but it just doesn’t do it for me. If it’s even still for sale (2 months later), I’d need to get it for a fair amount less than that to make me jump. Plus, a de-powered rack? Ehhh.

I don’t even know what this is or why a “European model” is special.

I mean, if I’m spending $8000 on a European model... sorry, got off topic.

Yeah, I saw that too. About double what I’d really want to spend a month before the end of track season (especially when I have zero free weekends to go to the track).

Agreed. $5-6k is the sweet spot for a track car.

Man, I really wish I’d had the space and what not to justify that SM when it was for sale. :(

So what you’re saying is that this is a perfect track car candidate?

OMG, it comes with a couple of AW11 wheel! But yes. Yes it is. No one gets how great these things are though, so you should be able to get it for half that.

I regret not going for it, too. Oh well, I’d prefer something I can insure and drive to the track.

Yep, that’s probably the main thing that kept me from actually following through. The need for a tow vehicle that could daily just made it too much of a hassle.

They make good rally cars, but rally cars break a lot. Fun for sure, but I think I’m going to stick to the pavement for now.

I saw it on craigslist a few weeks ago, and considered it, but I don’t want to deal with breaking and then fixing an AWD vehicle.

When prepared for it rallycross cars are typically pretty reliable, though you are correct that sometimes things happen.

Just make sure you continue to drive the heck out of that little thing though. Some day I will own a classic Mini (probably a van variant because really unique) but for now I am happy knowing there are a few people in the US who really enjoy their little cars.
